MY DINOSAUR PAGE - MARX FIGURES PART 1
What a bunch of you have been waiting for - My Marx Dinosaur page. It's here. There are a lot of pictures too. I used a few dozen crayons to draw these pictures. They look good - like real photographs.
I covered the Marx Brontosaurus figure (original and reissue) in previous pages. I have a few more pictures. Then I will go on to Tyrannosaurus Rex. There are two different kinds in the Marx toy world. They don't look anything like each other. On this page I cover the first one from the large mold group. It is often referred to as the potbelly Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Here is a small group picture to show you some of the variety of Dinosaurs in the Marx toy universe. Below that is marbled or swirled brontos. The Marx company mixed different color plastics together to make those effects. Sometimes it didn't work out as the colors didn't mix well or the diferent color plastics didn't cool at the same rate and warped. It was swell when it worked out.
Here is the highly sought after and highly priced chocolate milk colored Marx Brontosaurus. It is a softer, lighter brown than the browns usually used. This color is not used much for dinosaurs of other brands either. Marx only used this color for two mold groups out of five. The large mold group and the medium mold group. That was total of nine figures. They made so little of each figure. Most of you don't have any figures in this color.
I don't know why they made so little of certain color figures. I guess they wanted children to fight over them. if a child got a bloody nose fighting over one of these rare figures, then marketing would get points. Enough violence would lead to everyone getting a good raise. I am just speculating here. I am only fifty percent sure that this is what happened.
