MY DINOSAUR PAGE
This is my Marx Dump page. These were figures that came out not quite right often through worker experimentation. They were thrown away unto a plot of land and buried. Years later, after Marx Company went out of business, they were dug up and the decent ones were saved. They became collectors items themselves for some people. Some were thrown away by the company simply because the color was off. Some because the different color plastics didn't mix right and looked awkward. Some were discarded because the tail never molded all the way. I have a few struthiomimus figures with short tails from the Marx Dump.
More than just dinosaurs ended up in the Marx Dump. All kinds of plastic figures ended up there, but I only have experience with the dinosaur ones. Below are pictures of Marx dump figures from my collection. With a few of them, it is hard to tell why they were sent to the Dump. Other ones are easier to tell. Bent legs or big spots of a second color plastic that didn't mix in well are clear giveaways.
The Marx Dump is out in West Virginia. The place is landlocked by the owners of the neighboring land; so you would have to get permission to go digging there.
You can see Marx dump figures through my page and through a few pages from other collectors. Mine are pictured below.
This next figure wasn't advertized as a Marx Dump figure, but I really think it is. At first I stayed away from this auction because this figure looked like it had ink stains from a pen on it. Six months later the price was reduced and I looked at the auction again. I had a change of opinion. It looked worth buying. Looking at it in reality hints that it was a dump figure, not ink stained. Amother figure looked like it was a dump figure too.
Who's this guy?
It's a pot belly (beer gut) Tyrannosaurus Rex by Marx. I bought it and other figures at an auction. It looks like some of the figures may have come from the Marx Dump. The colors are off and there is a shovel mark. Also the foot is colored more than the rest of the figure. I talked about a Brontosaurus that I picked up that looked like it was from the Marx Dump. This was part of the same auction.

I just picked this one up (Nov 2021) from collector and ebay seller Joe Demarco. He dug it up from the Dump about thirty years ago. demarxo on Ebay - Items for sale
